Home > Press > Dermazone Solutions Provides Inaugural Contribution for Launch of Foundation Supporting College Scientists at USF: Funds to Benefit Scholars at University of South Florida Graduate Programs
Abstract:
Thanks in part to a contribution from Dermazone Solutions, Inc. in St. Petersburg, the University of South Florida has launched a chapter of the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation.
The creation of the Tampa Bay chapter, announced Wednesday night, adds Tampa to a list of 14 ARCS chapters around the country, in such cities as Atlanta, Los Angeles, Denver and San Francisco.
Efforts to establish the chapter, which will provide scholarships to attract top graduate students to USF's College of Marine Science and Cancer Biology, began 18 months ago when USF President Judy Genshaft made the first contribution. Her contribution was then supplemented by a number of other contributions, including one from Dermazone Solutions, a St. Petersburg-based company which manufactures and markets a wide range of pharmaceutical and cosmetic skin care products.
"We are committed to changing people's lives through our life-science technologies, business opportunities and philanthropic efforts," said Dermazone President Deborah Duffey. "When the opportunity presented itself to partner with the ARCS Foundation, we considered it a perfect marriage. What better way to support young scientists in our community than through ARCS? It's a privilege and honor to support this organization."
ARCS Foundation - Tampa Bay, a 501c-3 organization, is part of an overall effort to help students in completing degrees in science, medicine and engineering. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $61.7 million in nearly 12,000 annual awards to more than 7,800 undergraduate and graduate students.
