ISMI Reveals Keynote Speaker Lineup for 6th Annual Symposium

Austin, TX | Posted on August 3rd, 2009

International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI), the subsidiary of SEMATECH dedicated to helping improve the productivity and cost performance of semiconductor manufacturing operations, today announced the keynote speakers for its 6th Annual ISMI Symposium on Manufacturing Effectiveness.

ISMI's Manufacturing Week, heralded as the only place where fab engineers and managers meet face-to-face and collaborate, takes place October 19-22, 2009 at the Hilton Austin Airport in Austin, Texas.

The event's speaker lineup presents big-picture perspectives on the current economic landscape from industry thought leaders Angelos Angelou, Dave Bergeron, Jim Feldhan, and G. Dan Hutcheson.

Angelos Angelou will be one of two featured keynote speakers on Wednesday, October 21. His presentation will focus on "The Road to US Economic Recovery: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly." Mr. Angelou is founder and principle executive officer of AngelouEconomics, the largest independent economic development consulting firm in the U.S. He is a renowned expert in technology-based economic development, public policy, investment attraction and marketing.

The afternoon keynote on October 21 will be presented by Dave Bergeron, Chief Technology Officer of SVTC Technologies. Mr. Bergeron will present on the "Evolution of Process Technology Commercialization in Today's Economy" and will feature an overview of the Shared Services Model, a description of its successful implementation in the semiconductor and MEMS industries, and how it is being leveraged to address many of the challenges in getting new silicon based technologies into volume manufacturing.

On Thursday, October 22, Jim Feldhan, founder and president of Semico Research, will discuss "The Semiconductor Recovery Driven by Innovation & Marketing Technology." Mr. Feldhan is a 20-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, and his primary role at Semico is to develop the overall economic outlook as well as performing semiconductor consulting and forecasting for the industry.

The final keynote speaker of the ISMI Symposium will be G. Dan Hutcheson, founder and director of weSRCH.com. Mr. Hutcheson's keynote address on October 22 will explore "Why and How the Flow of Manufacturing Offshore Could Reverse." Mr. Hutcheson has been helping companies develop strategy and tactics to make businesses out of technology for more than 30 years, and he will speak to how the migration of manufacturing from North American to Pacific Rim countries led to the greatest economic challenge the world has faced since the Great Depression.

"We are pleased to have such a distinguished slate of keynote speakers, who will provide insight to the ISMI Symposium attendees on the opportunities and challenges of technology commercialization in the current economic environment," said Mike Schwartz, Symposium Chair. "Our event provides attendees with a better understanding of the cost-cutting and productivity benefits available to them when the world's most innovative companies' strategies are put to work."

In addition to keynote presentations, ISMI's Manufacturing Week program includes a multi-track symposium, a wide-range of short courses and workshops, an exhibit pavilion filled with the latest tools and solutions from some of the industry's top suppliers, as well as various networking opportunities.
