Home > Press > GMZ Energy Names New Chief Executive Officer: Aaron Bent to Drive GMZ Growth in Renewable Markets for Greener Consumer and Industrial Products
Abstract:
GMZ Energy, a private developer of adaptable nanotechnology for cleaner, more energy-efficient products, today named Dr. Aaron Bent as Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Bent was appointed to the new role by Mike Clary, the founding CEO of GMZ who will remain on the company's Board of Directors.
GMZ Energy is now focused on transitioning from innovation to product realization, bringing to market its breakthrough in thermoelectric materials for a range of more environmentally friendly products. As a successful entrepreneur and business leader, Dr. Bent brings extensive experience in commercializing leading edge products based on advanced materials, including solid-state energy conversion devices. His career includes developing hardware and integrated systems for customers in the defense, optical, test, telecommunications, and broadcast industries.
"Aaron is the right leader to take GMZ to the next level," said Mike Clary, GMZ Board member and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers. "He has extensive experience in bringing high tech products to market that leverage innovations in material properties and processes. His wide-ranging management experience will help shape GMZ as we complete our development and look to launch our products in several large markets."
"To become part of a company that has fundamentally disruptive technology and to join such a world-class team is truly a unique opportunity," commented Dr. Bent, who holds a PhD and MSc from MIT's Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. "Under the leadership of Mike Clary, GMZ has demonstrated the commercial feasibility of recent nano-scale materials innovations and established itself as the one to watch for clean energy products based on thermoelectric materials. The result is a platform technology having widespread impact in several fast growth markets in the clean energy sector."
GMZ's thermoelectric material, nanotechnology-based and environmentally friendly, effectively turns waste heat into electrical power and paves the way to a more sustainable future. Commercially viable because it is available, cost-effective, and easily adoptable, the GMZ material optimizes cooling in refrigerators and air conditioners, generates power from heat sources such as automotive exhaust systems, and enables electricity generation from renewable sources, among other applications in power plants, households, and industrial processes.
Dr. Bent is ideally suited to drive commercial growth at GMZ. Over his career, he has served in executive leadership roles in sales, marketing, engineering, and business development. Most recently, he served as North American GM for Polatis Photonics, a subsidiary of Polatis, the leading telecommunications all-optical switch vendor. Dr. Bentwas Co-Founder and President of Continuum, a venture-funded company commercializing products based on solid-state electroceramic materials. He is a Founding Fellow of the New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) Fellowship Program, a landmark program to accelerate executive leadership in the clean tech market.
