Teacher's secret: Energy and love
Abstract:
Recently, Stubbs decided that nanotechnology - manipulating matter on a molecular scale - is the wave of the future, and she couldn't wait for the curriculum to catch up.
"Two or three years from now, it's going to be nothing but nano," she says. She got a $14,500 grant from Charlotte's Arts and Science Council to launch an after-school Nanoscience Academy.
Chanelle, among the five participants, researched silver nanoparticles for her award-winning science fair project. Silver nanoparticles are used in cosmetics, medicine and odor-eating socks to kill microbes, she says. She tested what they do to water fleas to gauge environmental harm.
