Abstract:
Industry's First 40-nm FPGA Recognized for Its Density, Power and Performance Leadership and High-Speed Transceiver Technology
After shipping the first Stratix® IV devices one month ago, Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) today announced its 40-nm FPGA family already has received broad industry recognition from the electronics editorial community. Editors from China Electronics News, EDN, EDN China and Electronic Products recognized Altera for its market-leading innovations in the Stratix IV family, including the device's density, power and performance leadership and high-speed transceiver technology.
* China Electronics News selected Stratix IV FPGAs as its "2008 Editor's Choice Award" winner in the FPGA category. Winners of this award demonstrated a significant leap in innovation.
* EDN named Stratix IV FPGAs to its annual list of "Hot 100 Electronic Products." This list encompasses the 100 most significant products of 2008, as determined by the magazine's editors and readers.
* Stratix IV FPGAs received EDN China's "Leading Products Award" in the digital IC and programmable logic category. Winners of this award were chosen by a panel of technical experts and professors that selects products having the greatest impact on the electronics industry.
* Stratix IV FPGAs received Electronic Products's 2008 "Product of the Year" award in the digital ICs category. Award winners are selected by the magazine's editors on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance.
Zhao Yanqiu, vice managing editor at China Electronics News, stated, "As the first 40-nm FPGAs, Stratix IV devices represent a breakthrough for the industry and we are pleased to present Stratix IV FPGAs with our 2008 Editor's Choice Award. With this solution, Altera successfully addressed the power challenges at 40 nm while achieving high data rates, bandwidth and data processing."
Stratix IV FPGAs deliver market leadership in density, performance, and power, and offer an ideal solution for high-end digital applications in several markets, including wireless and wireline communications, military and broadcast. Stratix IV FPGAs are comprised of two variants, an enhanced (E) version and transceiver-based (GX) version. The family offers up to 680K logic elements, 22.4 Mbits of internal RAM and 1,360 18x18 embedded multipliers. The devices also utilize the latest architecture innovations and process techniques to deliver the lowest power and the highest performance of any high-end FPGA.
Stratix IV GX FPGAs feature up to 48 transceivers operating up to 8.5 Gbps, thus enabling the development of next-generation, high-bandwidth communication infrastructure. Stratix IV GX FPGAs incorporate up to four hard intellectual property (IP) cores for PCI Express Gen1 and Gen2 (x1, x4 and x8), and also support a wide range of protocols including Serial RapidIO®, Gigabit Ethernet, XAUI, CPRI (including 6G CPRI), CEI-6G, GPON, SFI-5.1 and Interlaken.
