Nanoscience expert to lecture Jan. 29 at MSU

BOZEMAN, MT | Posted on January 6th, 2009

The lecture, titled "Explorations in Science: Inspiration and Lessons from Biology, Geography and Art," will be followed by a reception in the Leigh Lounge hosted by the College of Letters and Science. The public is welcome to attend.

Douglas, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, joined the MSU faculty in 2001. He is internationally recognized for his pioneering research in the field of nanoscience, or the science of controlling matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Douglas, who is a co-founder and current director of the Center for Bio-Inspired Nanomaterials, has secured several patents and provisional patents for MSU and fostered collaborative, interdisciplinary research at MSU.

Billy Smith, a professor in MSU's Department of History and Philosophy, was the other Distinguished Professor appointed in the 2008-09 academic year. Both Douglas and Smith were chosen in recognition of their contributions to the College of Letters and Science, MSU, and the scholarly community at large, said Dean Paula Lutz. Smith will deliver his inaugural lecture in February.
