Abstract:
Zecotek Photonics Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ZMS)(FRANKFURT:W1I) today officially announced the launch of its new computerized, high-power, high-resolution laser spectrometer. The device was specifically developed to meet a rapidly growing demand for higher precision spectrometry in nano- and bio-technological applications. Zecotek's latest offering pushes the limits of the precise spectral measurements and technological procedures required in these fields. Now in production, the first of the new spectrometers will be shipped to the Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo, Canada.

Zecotek Announces Official Launch of New High-Power, High-Resolution Laser Spectrometer

VANCOUVER, BC, Canada | Posted on January 22nd, 2008

"Our new, fully automated, integrated laser system demonstrates Zecotek's lead in advanced laser spectrometry," said Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, Chairman, President, and CEO of Zecotek. "The response from the research community has been excellent. The fundamental laser component implements a proprietary, high-efficiency intra-cavity frequency doubling combined with user friendly control functions, and presents a unique and invaluable new tool for this critical area of research."

The spectrometer, model TIS/DYE-FD-08/A-scan, incorporates Zecotek's CW state-of-the-art ultra-wide-tunable laser, which covers a super-broad spectral range between 275 and 1100 nm, with a high-precision wavelength meter and multiple-function electronic control unit. The spectrometer is fully controllable through a high-speed USB 2.0 computer interface running on WindowsTM XP/Vista, with a wide range of user-defined settings for scanning, data acquisition and recording. Wavelength selection components and the non-linear crystals are precisely controlled with a wavelength meter and a closed-loop feed-back system.

The spectrometer embodies proprietary Zecotek innovation in the frequency doubling of the fundamental laser and in the tracking and synchronisation of wavelength selectors during wavelength scanning. This tracking removes the requirement for special or additional photo-detectors, which considerably simplifies automatic control and minimises the number of elements requiring active computer control.

Performance parameters include high-power, continuous-wave radiation, both in visible/near IR (up to 4 W), and in blue/UV ranges (up to 0.5 W). The spectrometer provides for a resolution of less than 0.001 nm, supported by the narrow emission line of the base laser source (less than 1 GHz) and by the high accuracy of the radiation wavelength meter.

The spectrometer is manufactured for Zecotek Photonics Inc. under contract by Tekhnoscan JSC of Novosibirsk, Russia and distributed through Zecotek Laser Systems Pte Ltd.
