Abstract:
Milk that tastes just like cola is not on sale yet. But this and other nano-food products, such as drinks that turn pink or yellow when microwaved, are in development and others already have reached the market and may be on your shelves.

Nanotechnology Impacts Food and Food Processing

Madison, WI | Posted on January 12th, 2008

Nanotechnology, which involves the understanding, manufacture and manipulation of materials at the molecular or atomic level, is already impacting food and food processing, from nutrition delivery to intelligent packaging. More than 600 nanofood products now are available on the market worldwide.

The Northside Farmers Market will host a Nano Café on Nanotechnology in Food and Agriculture during its final market of the winter season. Citizens are encouraged to bring questions and comments to the Café so that all "have a voice at the table."

Learn more about nanotechnology and food, the latest news on societal, environmental, ethical and risk issues raised by nanotechnology, and an updated list of resources on www.nanocafes.org.

The event is free and open to the public. People may drop in between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the dining area, indoors at the former Hancock Fabrics Store, Northside Town Center, 2935 N Sherman Ave, Madison. For more information, contact Nano Café at or Mathilde Colin 608-238-1438. Feel free to share thoughts about nano-enhanced food on the website.

The Nano Café is organized by the Citizens Coalition on Nanotechnology (CCoN), UW Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center, and UW Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies
