Small wonders: David Carroll
Abstract:
When David Carroll, director of Wake Forest University's Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials and the driving force behind the school's nanotech boom, was at a shareholder meeting for his two new spinoff companies a few weeks back, the talk was all about risk and reward.
"One investor got up and said, 'Looking at these kinds of high-risk, early-stage companies, you expect nine to fail for every one that succeeds. But at least it's not as risky as taking out a mortgage,'" Carroll recalls.
