Minerals science council goes very small to help the environment
Abstract:
South Africa's minerals tech- nology science council, Mintek, wants to use nanotechnology to combat water pollution. Mintek hosts one of the country's first two nanotechnology innovation centres, which were both launched late last month - the other is at the Council for Scientfic and Industrial Research (see Engineering News December 7, 2007).
Speaking at the official launch of the two centres, Mintek president and CEO Abiel Mngomezulu stated, "The challenge in South Africa is to bridge the innovation chasm, to convert nanoscience into nanotechnology products. For us, the quality of life of the people of South Africa is of paramount importance."
