Abstract:
Dorr to help bring Nanocomp's strong, lightweight and conductive carbon nanotube yarn and sheet production to market.
Nanocomp Technologies, Inc. ( http://www.nanocomptech.com ), a developer of next-generation performance materials, today announced that John Dorr has joined the company as vice president of business development. He will help Nanocomp with management, marketing and strategic planning for the commercialization of the company's carbon nanotube-based products. In addition to a background in engineering, Dorr brings comprehensive product management, marketing and business development and senior management experience in both the government and private sectors.
Nanocomp is the only company to produce both multi-functional nonwoven sheets and yarns from long, pure, single-wall carbon nanotubes. The materials are lightweight, strong and efficiently conduct both electricity and heat. Potential applications include body armor, structural composites, energy storage and electronics thermal management.
"We've proven that we can rapidly produce long carbon nanotubes in ready-to-use yarn and sheet formats and we are getting feedback from the market that these products appear to be quite useful in several industries, ranging from aerospace to telecommunications to clean energy storage and delivery," said Peter Antoinette, president and CEO of Nanocomp Technologies. "Now, as our focus shifts from the research stage towards building out a manufacturing operation, we are engaged in developing the right systems to both scale up production and ensure consistent product quality. We welcome John Dorr and his strong track record in marketing and product management that will help us identify the markets which best suit our products and eventually lead to commercialization of our products within those marketplaces."
Prior to Nanocomp, Dorr was with DTC Communications of Nashua, N.H., where he was vice president for sales and marketing. He was responsible for the creation and over-plan execution of a $25 million business plan, product management and marketing, and corporate strategy. He completely re-architected the organization to include a new product management function for business development leaders for large integrators and strategic planning. He also helped position DTC as a market leader for microwave video technology on all major ground robotics programs, including the highly publicized TALON® program. Dorr also helped lead DTC to ISO:9001 registration without a single non-conformance.
Before DTC Communications, Dorr was vice president of marketing for Viisage Technology (now L1 Identity Solutions) of Billerica, Mass., a homeland security technology company, where he was responsible for product management, product marketing, marketing communications and strategy. While there, he led the transition to a new high-profile brand for the company, dramatically increasing their global awareness and attracting world-class business partners. Prior to joining Viisage Technology, Dorr was with Aether Systems, Inc. (formerly Cerulean Technology, Inc.) for 7 years, where he was director of product management and then vice president, marketing and product management for the Mobile Government Division.
Dorr holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and an M.S. in computer engineering from the University of Lowell. His previous work experience also includes working as an engineer and in marketing for Wang Laboratories, Honeywell, Nixdorf Computer and Raytheon all in Massachusetts.
