Abstract:
IT is crucial for keeping the lights on in a sector that pervades every part of our economy. While doing that, the energy sector is also looking out for emerging technologies, Ken Wong reports.
But just as technology and IT systems do not remain static, the energy and utilities sector is keeping an eye on new and emerging technologies to see where they can best be used to improve services and delivery. For example, the emergence of embedded nanotechnology in large power plants and machinery can give power companies real-time information on the performance of equipment and alert the system control teams of potential failure.
