The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship Hosts 5th Annual Energy & Clean Technology Venture Forum

WHAT: The Energy & Clean Technology Venture Forum is one of the largest energy and clean technology venture forums in North America. Senior business executives discuss the global energy challenges and role that new technologies will play in meeting these challenges. Ways to increase conventional oil & gas supplies, as well as new alternative ("clean energy"), will be discussed.

The forum will also discuss the investment climate and investment trends in emerging energy technology and clean technology companies.

The forum will present nearly 60 of the most promising and innovative energy technology companies in the areas of seismic, drilling & production, environmental, solar, power generation, and energy efficiency.

An advisory board of over 60 investors and venture capitalists will select the ten most promising companies which will be announced at the end of program.

Elizabeth "Libby" Cheney, Vice President, Exploration and Production, Shell Americas - 9:15 - 9:45 AM

Elizabeth "Libby" Cheney is the current Vice president of Exploration and Production for Shell Americas. Cheney's responsibilities encompass Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE), Business Planning and Support, Contracts and Joint Ventures, and Communications and Government Affairs associated with Exploration and Production activities throughout North, Central, and South America.

Before joining Shell in 2006, Libby was the Manager of Non-Operated Global Development Projects for ExxonMobil Development Company in Houston, TX where she managed technical resources and decisions for non-operated global projects totaling more than $25 billion in gross investment. She began her career as a Reservoir Engineer with Exxon in Kingsville, Texas.

Her background includes various assignments managing multi-functional teams for producing assets from offshore Gulf of Mexico to West Texas and California. Libby subsequently managed field operations and led an organization of engineers and technicians in developing and optimizing onshore US assets. In addition, she spent time as the Senior Strategic Planning contact for development projects in Russia, the Caspian, and the Middle East.

Matthew M. Nordan - President - Lux Research - 1:15 - 1:45 PM

Lux Research is one of the leading independent advisory firms in the area of clean technology and nanotechnology. Members of the firm have testified before the U.S. Congress three times, spoke at 45 conferences worldwide in 2006, and were cited more than 250 times in business media in 2006.

Matthew Nordan is the President of Lux Research and a veteran advisor to senior decision-makers on technology change. Matthew joined Lux from Forrester Research, where he held a variety of senior management positions and led research and consulting lines of business in the U.S. and Europe.

Nordan is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale University, where he conducted cognitive neuroscience research on the neural pathways mediating emotion and memory.

Dr. Doug Cameron - Chief Scientific Officer - Khosla Ventures - 4:15 - 4:45 PM

Khosla Ventures is one of the most prominent venture capitalists in the world and leader in clean technology investment. Vinod Khosla founded the firm in 2004 and has been labeled the #1 VC by Forbes. Fortune recently labeled him as one the nation's most influential ethanol advocates, He was formerly a General Partner at Kleiner Perkins and founder of Sun Microsystems.

Dr. Douglas C. Cameron is the Chief Scientific Officer of Khosla Ventures in Menlo Park, California. He a director of LS9, Gevo, LanzaTech and Segetis, all companies focused on fuels and chemicals from renewable resources.

Cameron received his B.S.E. in biomedical engineering from Duke University in 1979 and his Ph.D. in biochemical engineering from MIT in 1986.
