Home > Press > Xidex Wins New NSF Contract for Carbon Nanotube Device Manufacturing
Abstract:
Xidex Corporation, an Austin-based nanotechnology company, has been awarded a new contract from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop Selective Nanotube Etching™, a process designed for manufacturing carbon nanotube (CNT) devices.
The project will enhance Xidex's CNT device manufacturing process and produce a new Selective Nanotube Etching™ tool that other nanodevice developers can use for product fabrication or repair. Xidex will work in collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and the University of Tennessee's Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
"Selective Nanotube Etching™ will cut development time for our new devices and improve our company's production capacity," said Vladimir Mancevski, Xidex's Chief Technology Officer. "Ultimately, this will translate into improved products and lower prices for our customers."
Paul McClure, Xidex's President and CEO, said, "We are pleased to be executing this project with an excellent team, which includes two of the country's leading research universities. As one of the first Texas-based companies to manufacture and sell nanotechnology-based products, we also look forward to working with other nanodevice developers who can benefit from availability of a Selective Nanotube Etching™ tool."

About Xidex Corporation
Xidex ( http://www.xidex.com ), founded in 1997, manufactures nanodevices based on individual CNTs with controlled properties using a proprietary, scalable core process. Xidex currently manufactures CNT-based probes which it sells for use in high-end microscopy tools, including CNT tips for atomic force microscopes (AFMs). These probes give chipmakers the much-needed ability to measure devices as small as 1 nanometer (nm), and strengthen the industry's ability to produce advanced semiconductors. They also are used in materials science, biology and other challenging applications.
SEMATECH, the international consortium of semiconductor manufacturers whose members represent about half of the world's semiconductor revenue, recently provided funding to accelerate Xidex's entry into the CNT probes market. Xidex currently is developing new products based on Selective Nanotube Etching™ for use with scanning electron microscopes (SEMs). For further information, contact Paul McClure at (512) 339-0608 or
