The future face of power generation
Abstract:
An initiative is calling on the very latest technologies in order to make the power generation industry fit for purpose well in to the future.
Nanotechnology is being utilised extensively. The research instruments and resources needed to work at micron dimensions have become readily available as more people want to investigate materials in ever finer detail. And the key finding overall is that nanoparticles of any given material often have different properties from their larger, molecule-sized equivalents. They act in different ways and while nanotechnology is giving us greater depth of understanding, it is also creating new areas that need researching.
Thanks to the development of nanotechnology, one area of research in the Supergen initiative is solar cells, where organic and dye sensitised photovoltaic materials could replace today's silicon.
