Lt. General Carol Mutter, USMC, (ret), an experienced acquisition professional, has joined the Advisory Board of Modumetal, a Seattle, Washington-based advanced composite alloy firm that represents a potential revolution in metals performance and manufacturing.
Modumetal™ is a patent-pending material and manufacturing process that is intended to deliver exceptionally strong and tough parts through the exploitation of nanotechnology principals and applications.
Through a production process called Modumetalization™, the company can "grow" metal alloy parts that can be used in low cost, large scale, just-in-time production. As a result, Modumetal has identified strong market potential that includes defense related materials and equipment, armor and commercial applications that cover a variety of areas, including, construction materials, tools and other products that depend on the strength and durability of steel.
"I'm tremendously excited to be a part of the Modumetal Team," said Lt. General Mutter. "The fundamental premise of Modumetal suggests that its technology and process can dramatically alter the landscape as it relates to the use of metals in both production and manufacturing processes." The lightweight nature of Modumetal, and its overall durability and strength, presents a unique opportunity to dramatically improve upon the performance and service life of an unlimited variety of products that have both military and civilian application."
Lt. General Mutter has had, and continues to have, an exceptional career. She has over 18 years of experience in research, development and acquisition that includes time as a Program Manager and service as both the Deputy and the Commanding General of the Marine Corps Systems Command.
Additionally, she commanded a major logistics deployable command overseas supporting ground and aviation elements. She has held leadership positions in financial management, personnel administration and information technology. She brings broad expertise and a record of innovation which will measurably contribute to Modumetal's product development.
In addition to military medals that attest to her accomplishments, Lt. General Mutter's civilian awards include the Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Public Service.
According to Modumetal CEO, Christina Lomasney, Modumetal's continued progress, including the addition of Mutter to the team, represents growing confidence in the company and its potential.
"As we continue to develop Modumetal, and seek to meet deployment requirements for ballistic armor and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) defense systems, Lt. General Mutter will play a critical and important product and business development role," said Lomasney. "Her expertise and knowledge of the defense industry, and her specific understanding of the challenges and threats faced by Marines and warfighters in theater, will contribute immensely to a rapid and focused effort to demonstrate the revolutionary properties of Modumetal parts and materials, while delivering product to the field that will serve our troops. We are fortunate to have her on our team."
