Abstract:
NanoHorizons, Inc., an emerging leader in applied nanoscale materials and solutions, today announced that O‚MARA Incorporated will include SmartSilver, the smarter anti-odor and antimicrobial answer, in its innovative ECO-FIL yarn product family. SmartSilver is engineered at the nanoscale to impart permanent anti-odor/antimicrobial properties to natural and synthetic fibers and fabrics. ECO-FIL is the only filament yarn made from 100% post-consumer bottles.
"Every ounce of ECO-FIL is recycled," said Timothy O‚Mara, President, O‚MARA, Incorporated. "Now manufacturers can offer their customers performance apparel made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials and with all the properties that consumers demand, plus the permanent odor protection performance provided by SmartSilver."
"ECO-FIL yarn with SmartSilver is an outstanding environmentally-responsible product," said Dennis Schneider, Director, Sales and Marketing, NanoHorizons. "The combination of ECO-FIL and SmartSilver enables manufacturers to offer high-quality, high-performance and environmentally responsible products. SmartSilver-enhanced apparel remains odor free, creating the possibility of reducing wash cycles. Further, SmartSilver ingredients are made using lower-grade ores from silver mining that would otherwise be disposed of as waste."
ECO-FIL delivers a soft, luxurious, color-fast product without depleting the earth‚s natural resources, without herbicides or pesticides and without extensive energy use. ECO-FIL is used in designer clothing lines, home furnishing products, and is increasingly popular among outdoor apparel manufacturers. SmartSilver's proven technology is ideally suited for fine ECO-FIL filaments.
SmartSilver˙ Nanoscale Technology
SmartSilver delivers the permanent and highly antimicrobial power of pure silver, without forcing designers seeking anti-odor performance to compromise in other areas, such as dye performance, hand, stretch, durability, or manufacturability. SmartSilver additives are engineered to be easily used in existing textile manufacturing equipment to evenly disperse anti-odor SmartSilver that forms permanent bonds with fiber structures ranging from natural cotton and wool to rayon, polyester, nylon, and polypropylene.
