Home > Press > Christian P. Schindler Named New Director General at ITMF
Abstract:
Christian P. Schindler is the new Director General of the Zurich-based International Textile Manufacturers Federation, from January, 2007.
Schindler took over the reigns at ITMF from Dr Herwig Strolz, who steered the lead textile industry organization for past 37 years.
Appearing on Face2face, the interview section of world's leading portal Fibre2fashion, serving the apparel, textiles, fashion and retail industries, Schindler said, "It seems evident that the phase-out of the quota-regime will lead to even more regional trade agreements, especially if efforts for a successful multinational trade agreement (Doha-Round) does not look to promising these days."
"In general the global demand for textiles will continue to rise due to a growing world population and higher income levels in many developing countries. At the same time the demand of more sophisticated textile applications will increase as well due to new technical developments and possibilities in areas such as nanotechnology,' opined Schindler.
Explaining the role of ITMF, he said, "The overall objective is to provide information and/or to have access to information that enables our members to get the best possible picture of the industry's situation and development."
Replying on China, Schindler said, "China will also have a big impact on the developments of the textile industry in the years to come; both as a producer as well as consumer of textiles."
On the importance of web portals, Schindler viewed: "It enables everyone involved in the textile industry to have rapid access to information and business opportunities on a global scale. In today's web-world portals like the one from Fibre2fashion represent an irreplaceable tool that cannot replace personal contacts but that can serve as an additional tool in order to adapt to the fast changing opportunities and risks."
