Abstract:
NanoHorizons™, Inc. today announced the availability of SmartSilver™ permanent anti-odor/antimicrobial for 100% wool. This new product joins the current line of SmartSilver for polyester, nylon, polypropylene, cotton and rayon. SmartSilver -- the smarter anti-odor and antimicrobial answer™ -- leverages nanotechnology to impart permanent anti-odor performance to fabrics without any compromises in fabric quality. SmartSilver is applied to wool using typical fabric and garment dye systems.

NanoHorizons(TM) Unveils SmartSilver(TM) Anti-Odor Nanotechnology for Wool

STATE COLLEGE, PA | Posted on January 22nd, 2007

SmartSilver imparts anti-odor/antimicrobial capabilities to wool through modifications engineered at the molecular level. Wool, because of its native properties, such as natural oils, has posed unique challenges to previous anti-odor technologies. As with other materials using SmartSilver, wool's original properties, including hand, dyeability, stretch, wicking and thermal properties, remain unchanged with SmartSilver.

SmartSilver is permanent, safe, and fully compatible with existing manufacturing processes for fiber and fabrics. SmartSilver-enhanced fibers can be used to create odor-resistant undergarments, hats, gloves, socks, T-shirts, sweaters, shoe linings, carpets and more.

NanoHorizons remains the only manufacturer of antimicrobial additives to define standards of performance and mandatory ongoing manufacturer quality monitoring.

SmartSilver Solves Real Market Challenges

Silver is an ideal and safe antimicrobial. SmartSilver is engineered at the nanoscale to leverage silver's strengths and enable manufacturers to immediately and inexpensively add permanent, high-performance, anti-odor/antimicrobial properties to their products. SmartSilver permanently bonds to the host material -- be it wool, cotton, or blends of natural synthetic fibers and fabrics -- ensuring superior anti-odor performance for the life of the product.

"SmartSilver has garnered great attention from manufacturers using cotton and synthetic fibers, particularly in the performance apparel market," said Dennis I. Schneider, NanoHorizons' Director of Sales and Marketing. "We recognized that wool, one of the most important natural fibers for consumer apparel and many other uses, needs a permanent anti-odor/antimicrobial solution. SmartSilver for wool gives manufacturers a best-of-class, cost-effective, safe and permanent way to provide anti-odor capabilities to their wool products."
