Big Hopes for a Tiny Machine
Abstract:
MPhase Technologies is so confident in its latest prototype that it is attempting to spin off a company around the tiny metal detector before locking in a single customer. The instrument—a device that can measure the direction or intensity of magnetic fields—has also been tested for use in navigation technology that relies on the Global Positioning System. MPhase has been targeting cell-phone makers in Japan and South Korea, since Japan has required that all mobile devices sold next year be GPS-enabled for emergency services, says Ronald Durando, mPhase’s CEO.
