International NANOSPIN project

Posted on March 30, 2006

NT-MDT Company announced a successful close-out of European NANOSPIN project's regular stage. This project was founded by a group of European scientists with an aim to manufacture and study the behaviour of magnetic nanoparticles comprising a core and multiple-shells. The overall technological objectives are to functionalise the nanoclusters to enable them to be produced as ordered arrays on surfaces and to demonstrate proof of principle in classical and quantum single-particle data storage. The project is consortium of 8 contractors from 5 countries, that is, UK, Italy, Spain, Ukraine and Russian Federation, united the most leading European Universities' scientists. NANOSPIN accumulated all advanced researches, technologies and devices manufactured by world leading nanotechnology equipment producers including NT-MDT.

On given research period there were significant results obtained, in particular NT-MDT Company developed probes having polysilicon levers with high resolution crystalline silicon tips and very reproducible parameters, which lead to accurate values of probe resonant frequency and force constant. New polysilicon probes provide low noise while operating in AFM mode, which is very important for MFM images where soft and low-noise levers should be used to obtain better images. In addition polysilicon probes have high aspect ratio tips that enable higher resolution MFM images.

NANOSPIN project has wide public and scientific response due to its exceptional importance in terms of environment preservation by means of considerable material and energetic resources reduction in information technology sphere.
