Penn State 2005 research profiled

Abstract:
NanoHorizons, Inc., a spin-off company located in Penn State's Innovation Park will provide the crucial ingredient, nanoscale-sized silver particles, for a new line of anti-odor fabric produced by ARC Outdoors/ArticShield. However, the textile market is only the latest foray for NanoHorizons, Inc., which was founded in 2002 by Dr. Stephen Fonash, Kunkle professor of engineering sciences.

A new technology in development by Dr. Mark Kester, professor of pharmacology, and Dr. James Adair, professor of ceramic science and engineering, recently won the International Nanotechnology Business Idea Competition and is the basis for Keystone Nano, another start-up at PennState’s research park. The two researchers are working on ultra-tiny "molecular dots" to carry ceramide, a naturally-occurring cancer-cell killer, to tumors.
