Nanotech Advances May Lead to New Devices
Abstract:
Advances in nanotechnology took center stage at the recent American Chemical Society meeting in the US. They include the development by Sandia National Laboratories of tiny porphyrin tubes to make a broad range of nanodevices, and the development by the University of Wisconsin of tiny bioelectronic circuits to make nanotech machines or sensors.
And while enthusiasm for such developments is keen, estimates on the market size for nanotechnology or products containing nanotechnology vary widely. They range from US$8 billion to US$68 billion worldwide for 2004 to 2005. The US National Science Foundation earlier estimated that the global market will hit US$1 trillion by 2015.
