Timers To Shrink Microchips, Cell Phones
Abstract:
New electronic clocks smaller than blood cells soon may find their way into microchips to replace bulkier technologies at a greatly reduced cost. The microclocks, developed by scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, "could lead to shrinking of components in computers, leading to faster and more powerful computing, as well as cell phones, things like global positioning system units, as well as broadband Internet and wireless connectivity," researcher William Rippard, a NIST physicist in Boulder, Colo., told United Press International.
