Tuning in to vapours

Abstract:
A sensitive chemical sensor has been developed in which a nanoscale polymer wire retunes the resonant frequency of a microscale tuning fork when exposed to an organic vapour. The device is cheap and compact, and can detect ethanol vapour mixed with nitrogen at a level of less than 15 parts per million.
