Abstract:
Pokhara, the most beautiful city situated in the lap of Mount Macchapuchre in Western Nepal, is all set to organize its first ever international meeting on Material Science and Engineering (MSE) during October 17-20, 2016 as a third series of the Biannual International Conference- Kathmandu Symposia on Advanced Materials (KaSAM). This year’s KaSAM-2016 will also be organized by Nepal Polymer Institute (NPI), a Kathmandu based professional organization of polymer scientists which represents the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in Nepal.

“Since the inception of first KaSAM-2012 in Kathmandu, Nepal Polymer Institute has continuously been organizing the meeting every two years”, said Prof. Dr. Rameshwar Adhikari, the convener of the event. He further mentioned that “We wanted to organize this meeting in Pokhara not only due to the beauty of the city but mainly to promote scientific activities outside the capital city.” Dr. Adhikari, who is a Professor in the Central Department of Chemistry (Kirtipur) at Tribhuvan University, has organized
similar international/national meetings in Nepal aimed at providing a global platform to students, young researchers, faculties, and policy makers in various avenues of chemistry, material sciences, chemical technologies, nanotechnology and related biomedical sciences.
According to Santosh Thapa, a member of the KaSAM-2016 Organizing Committee, the congress will be addressed by many eminent scientists representing more than 10 countries throughout the globe including Prof. Mushahid Husain (Vice Chancellor of M J. P. Rohilkhand University, Bareily, India), Prof. Goerg H. Michler (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenbberg, Germany), Prof. Bernhard Blümich (Aachen University, Germany), Prof. Michael Hess (University of Siegen, Germany), Prof. Holger Schönherr (University of Siegen, Germany), Prof. Jean Marc Saiter (University of Rouen, France), Prof. Valerio Causin (Padova University, Italy), Prof. Tomasz Sterzinsky (Poznan University of Technology, Poland), Prof. Suprakas Sinha Ray (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, South Africa), Prof. Shigeru Okamoto (Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan), Prof. Sinichi Sakurai (Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan), Prof. Abu Bin Hasan Susan (University of Dhaka, Bangladesh), Prof. Susanta Banerjee (IIT Kharagpur, India), Prof. Dayaghan S. Rane (Dadasaheb D. N. Bhole College, India), Prof. Ajaya Kumar Singh (Govt. V. Y. T. PG. Autonomous College Durg, India), Prof. C. K. Das (FM University, Odisha, India), Prof. Pranab Ghosh (North Bengal University, Darjeeling, India), Dr. Ralf Lach (Polymer Service GmbH Merseburg, Germany), Dr. Sven Henning (Fraunhofer IMWS, Germany), Dr. Jakub Širc (Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic), Dr. Andreas Leuteritz (Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research, Germany), Dr. Amit Das (Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research, Germany), Dr. Surendra Gautam (Tribhuvan University, Nepal), Dr. Netra Lal Bhandari (Tribhuvan University, Nepal), Dr. Suresh Kumar Dhungel (Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, Nepal), Dr. Bhim Kafle (Kathmandu University, Nepal), Dr. Sheila Maskey (Tribhuvan University, Nepal) and Dr. Bhanu Bhakta Neupane (Kathmandu Institute for Applied Sciences, Nepal).

According to a statement issued by the organizers, KaSAM-2016 will be accompanied by Second Kathmandu Autumn School on Chemistry and Chemical Technologies (KASChem-2016) to provide an overview of recent progresses in the field of Nanomaterials. “The autumn school is an outreach program to be held in three different cites (Pokhara, Chitwan and Biratnagar) and is targeted to undergraduate/graduate students, young scientists and newcomers in the field of polymer sciences”, said Dr. Rajesh Pandit, vice-president of Nepal Polymer Institute.

The technical programme of the conference will comprise invited lectures, oral and poster presentations providing a survey of recent developments in material sceinces and engineering. The organizers would like to invite you to participate and contribute both to the autumn school and KaSAM-2016.
