Abstract:
Despite the tragic massive earthquakes that hit Nepal back in April and May, Kathmandu- the capital city- will be hosting the 2nd International Conference on Infectious Diseases and Nanomedicine (ICIDN)-2015 from December 15 to December 18, 2015. According to a recent press release issued by the organizers, the deadline for abstract submission to ICIDN-2015 is extended to September 15, 2015 in order to accommodate the growing interest of the prospective participants.
The ICIDN-2015, convened by Professor Dr. Rameshwar Adhikari, (Central Department of Chemistry, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu) will be accompanied by one day pre-conference workshop on related topics for young scientists and students. Main program of the conference will comprises opening lecture, several keynote/invited lectures, oral presentations and poster sessions under a broad range of symposia topics including infectious diseases epidemiology, microbiome, immune response, antimicrobial resistance, vaccines, drug design/delivery, nano/bio-materials.
According to Santosh Thapa, Co-Convener of the event, ICIDN-2015 is organized jointly by Nepalese Forum for Medical Microbiology (only official member society of International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) to Nepal), Nepal Polymer Institute (only national representative organization of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) to Nepal) and CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Biotechnology (CoEBio), Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China with support from American Society for Microbiology based at Washington DC and the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases located in Basel, Switzerland.
Mr. Thapa further stated that many world renowned scientists will be joining ICIDIN-2015 in Kathmandu. The lists included Distinguished Professor Dr. Ananda Mohan CHAKRABARTY (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago, USA), Professor Dr. Geoffrey L SMITH (IUMS Past President and Head of the Department of Pathology at University of Cambridge, UK), Professor Dr. Muhammad G. MORSHED (University of British Columbia, Canada), Professor Robert R. BRAGG (University of the Free State, South Africa), Professor Mahi R. SINGH (The University of Western Ontario, Canada), Professor Abdul HAQUE (The University of Faisalabad, Pakistan), Prof Sabu THOMAS ( Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India), Dr. Ronen HAZAN (Hebrew University, Israel), Dr. Jakub SIRC (Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Czech Republic) among others.
Dr. Netra Lal Bhandari, Conference Secretary, said that ‘we would like to invite all the related scientists, researchers, policy makers and interested individuals to participate and contribute to the ICIDN-2015 in an effort to rebuild our beautiful Nepal via scientific contributions from national/international communities’.
This conference is hoped to be a milestone in promoting interdisciplinary collaborative education and researches in microbiology, material sciences and nanotechnology in Nepal, said Mr. Rajesh Pandit, the Treasurer of the program.
