![]() |
Abstract:
MENAPiC announced today that its innovative Proprietary Colored Picosecond Ultrasonics Technology APIC for characterization is now available through a services platform. The company has developed dedicated modules and strong expertise for photovoltaic, 3D Integration, RF filters, optical & diamond coatings and more generally semiconductor applications.
Picosecond Ultrasonics
The technique deals with a LASER beam generating acoustic waves in a stack of materials. It results in a very high precision Nano-Sonar -fraction of nanometer-. The mechanical measurements are non-contact and non-destructive. Such characterizations can be performed on various materials as different as metals, dielectrics, semiconductors, crystalline, poly-crystalline, amorphous or porous. The thickness range is from a few nanometers to a few microns. The technology operates in the time-domain which means that it is compatible with complex stacks, the successive layers being detected at various time-delays.
An Unique Colored Offer
As a spin-off from ISEN/IEMN Lab from CNRS, MENAPiC is the inventor and IP owner of multi-wavelength picosecond ultrasonics technology -named APIC- improving a lot the current mono-wavelength picosecond ultrasonics measurements. The colored-multiwavelength version of picosecond ultrasonics provides disruptive advantages : adaptation to the material characteristics (gold, polymer) in terms of wavelength, no limitation with transparent materials, possibility to analyse graded materials, optical index is measurable, no need for high acoustic contrast to sense the acoustic impedance, a 2D instead of 1D analysis for Poisson'ratio, less dependency on some parameters as the thickness etc. ''The colored APIC technology drastically increases the quality of experience and provides high precision results.'' said Dr. Arnaud Devos, co-founder, inventor of APIC and CTO of MENAPiC.
The Expected Solution for the Analysis of Interfaces and Voids
The colored nano-sonar is the perfect tool to observe and quantify interfaces, voids, adhesion and delamination. The characterization enables getting qualitative & quantitative information about the interfaces. Using APIC, MENAPiC's partners can either improve the bonding quality, or analyse metal-polymer interfaces for flexible chips, or select the best reciepe for metallic mirror, or observe delaminations and adhesion versus time and environment, or map a wafer to get a perfect understanding between yield and interfaces locations, or etc.
Service Platform and Future Product
The benchs and models have both been qualified through cooperations with labs and industrial partners. ''After 4 years of research and development, MENAPiC is glad to open its unique high added-value characterization platform and to provide it to all partners using thin films.'' said Dr. Patrick Emery, co-founder and CEO of MENAPiC. The company supports R&D centers, SMEs and Tier-1. MENAPiC has also begun the development of a first product dealing with an integrated version of APIC measurement platform for R&D teams; first delivery in Q3, 2015.

About MENAPiC
MENAPiC is the world's first supplier to market and to provide colored picosecond ultrasonics for thin films based industries. Every new generation of chips requires specific development to improve the integration, cost and performances. Such development requires on-the-edge characterization tools to have a better understanding and to decrease time-to-market. Company has been founded by Dr. Patrick Emery and Dr. Arnaud Devos. MENAPiC first provides a services platform and develops in parallel a first product of its new measurement platform.
