Abstract:
Iranian biological researchers produced a new medicine for the treatment of diabetes by using effective materials in the extract of grape encapsulated in drug nanocarriers.
The drug nanocarrier was made of cyanidin and delphinidin existing in various types of grapes, and it is effective in reducing the effects of damages caused by sweet diabetes on mice which suffer from this disease. It can also be used as a new anti-diabetes product in pharmaceutical industries.
Since the two major phenolic components of cyanidin and dlephinidin in grape have useful specifications, including decreasing blood cholesterol and cardiovascular protection, which are caused by sweet diabetes, the researchers investigated the effect of these materials existing in grape in this research in two forms of free and nanoliposomal on decreasing the damages caused by diabetes.
In this research, nanoliposoms containing cyanidin and delphinidin were firstly produced by using fats such as phosphatidylcholine existing in soya and cholesterol. After testing the performance of the nanoliposoms produced on these conditions, in vitro studies were carried out during the treatment of mice that were suffering from diabetes on glycation of albumin and hemoglobin A and also on changes in blood glucose, cholesterol, and so on by using these components.
Results of the research showed that cyanidin and delphinidin, specially when encapsulated in nanoliposoms, are able to prevent in vitro glycation of albumin and hemoglobin A. They also decrease blood glucose, blood cholesterol, albumin, and glycated hemoglobin A in mice that suffer from diabetes. They also increase the amount of glycogen stored in the liver, and therefore, they can be used as an element to reduce the effects of sweet diabetes.
Results of the research have been published in Planta Medica vol. 79, issue 17, November 2013, pp. 1599-1604.
