FibeRio Technology Corporation is Named in the 2013 Global Cleantech 100: List Recognizes the Top Private Companies in Clean Technology

McAllen, TX | Posted on October 14th, 2013

The Global Cleantech 100 list is unique because it highlights the promise of private clean technology companies from all around the world. Forcespinning is a disruptive platform technology which enables leading manufacturers to produce nanofibers on a truly commercial scale in a cost effective way using a wide range of polymers and an environmentally sensitive process. Nanofiber applications are used in a variety of markets including filtration, nonwovens, battery separators, textiles, biomedical and conductive materials.

Nanofibers' higher surface area and smaller pore size improves the characteristics of fibrous material. This enables performance levels in any given application to be matched or improved using significantly less material in the end product; which also allows for lighter weight and lower cost. However, previous methods of production were not scalable and they required massive amounts of environmentally harmful solvents, which limited the commercialization of nanofiber materials. FibeRio's Forcespinning technology is the only technology platform capable of both melt and solution spinning nanofibers. This provides a more sustainable method of production because melt spinning does not require solvents. Additionally, Forcespinning can be used to solution spin with vastly smaller amount of solvents than traditional nanofiber production processes such as electrospinning. FibeRio nanofiber production systems are turn-key solutions available for both lab scale and full industrial scale production. The Fiberlab™ L1000 systems are ideal for research and development, while Fiber Engine® systems realize the benefit of Forcespinning technology in a high volume, continuous manufacturing environment.

"FibeRio being highlighted as one of the top 100 private clean technology companies listed under Cleantech 100 is an endorsement of our company's efforts to help our customers reach both their financial goals and their strategic sustainability initiatives. Moreover, it will help open new markets and enable new applications" said Ellery Buchanan, CEO of FibeRio.

The list for the Global Cleantech 100 is derived from Cleantech Group's own data and research, combined with the weighted qualitative judgments of hundreds of nominations, and the viewpoints of a global 90-person Expert Panel.

Five thousand eight hundred and sixty-four companies were nominated this year from 60 countries. These companies were weighted and scored to create a short list of 300 companies. The end result was 100 companies from 18 countries.

• The complete list of 100 companies was revealed on October 9th at the Global Cleantech 100 Summit & Gala in Washington, D.C. events.cleantech.com/global100/.
