Abstract:
The European Commission co-funded project TANOCOMP has developed an e-learning Training program on the production of High Added Value Plastic Composites with Carbon Nanotubes for use in high-strength applications.

Free e-Learning Program on Carbon Nanotubes and Polymers Processing

Posted on September 4th, 2013

Nanoparticles when incorporated into to polymer and plastic materials offer guaranteed benefits in terms of cost cutting and technological advancement. With the help of CNTs, the properties and the performance of the end products can be improved or they can also be utilized in an entirely new field of application. For instance, the incorporation of pristine or functionalised carbon nanotubes into plastic products can make them electrically or thermally conductive and exhibit enhanced mechanical properties. CNTs improve tensile strength and provide high resistance to fire, greater durability and impact resistance as well as low wear without increasing the weight of the final product.

In view of these benefits, the European Commission has co-funded ´the project TANOCOMP (Training on the nANOtechnology aspects of plastic COMposites with enhanced properties for use in high-strength applications). Indeed, TANOCOMP project aims at facilitating the technology transfer process in the field of nanocomposites in European countries through the development of an online multilingual training program on the use of nanotechnology in plastics. This program has been specifically designed to allow plastics producers and plastics processors to provide to their employees a theoretical overview on the incorporation of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) in thermoplastics.

TANOCOMP training focus on thermoplastics extrusion and injection moulding processes with carbon nanotubes for resulting in nanocomposites with high added value. The online training program developed by European experts Glonatech, Aitiip, Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum and Marketmentoro can be accessed through the project's website, www.tanocomp.eu, where interested parties can register into the e-learning platform. The training is provided free of charge.
