Abstract:
The American Chemical Society (ACS) announces that Jillian M. Buriak, Ph.D., will assume the role of Editor-in-Chief of Chemistry of Materials in January 2014. Buriak, who currently serves as Associate Editor for ACS Nano, is Professor, Canada Research Chair in Inorganic and Nanoscale Materials, and Senior Research Officer of the National Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Alberta, Canada.
Buriak will succeed Editor-in-Chief Leonard V. Interrante, Ph.D., the founding Editor-in-Chief of Chemistry of Materials, who has served in this position since 1989 and will retire from the journal at the end of 2013. Interrante is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Buriak received an A.B. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the Université Louis Pasteur. After a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada postdoctoral appointment at The Scripps Research Institute, Buriak was Associate Professor of Chemistry at Purdue University before joining the University of Alberta.
"We are delighted that Jillian Buriak has been selected by the community as the next Editor-in-Chief of Chemistry of Materials," said Susan King, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of the Journals Publishing Group at ACS. "Dr. Buriak brings a keen insight into the materials science field and an enthusiasm for leading the journal that will serve her well in her new role. With the innovations she has planned for Chemistry of Materials, we are confident that the journal will continue to flourish and build upon the already strong legacy that Dr. Interrante established."
"I am pleased that Jillian Buriak was chosen as the next Chemistry of Materials Editor-in-Chief," said Interrante. "After talking to her about her ideas for the journal and her experience as Associate Editor for ACS Nano, I became convinced that she would make an outstanding Editor-in-Chief. She has some great ideas and will be a positive force in the future of the journal."
Chemistry of Materials is devoted to the publication of original contributions on forefront, fundamental research at the interface of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science. Both theoretical and experimental studies that focus on the preparation or understanding of materials with unusual or useful properties are relevant. A long-time leader in its field, Chemistry of Materials received 74,651 total citations and an Impact Factor of 8.238 in the 2013 release of the Journal Citations Reports® from Thomson Reuters.
