Home > Press > SEMATECH Hires Proven Industry Executives to Expand Capabilities and Accelerate Growth: Technology veterans from IBM and Intel bring exceptional expertise and experience to lead business and technical operations
Abstract:
SEMATECH, the global consortium of semiconductor manufacturers, today announced the appointment of Ronald Goldblatt as vice president of Technology Strategy and Operations, and Gopal Rao as senior director of Business Development. Together, they join SEMATECH's executive management team to enhance technical development efforts, enhance member relationships and broaden industry engagement.
"Dr. Goldblatt and Mr. Rao bring outstanding experience and value to our world-class strategic team at SEMATECH," said Dan Armbrust, SEMATECH's president and CEO. "The combination of their deep industry knowledge and ability to execute will help us to continue to provide cutting-edge research and development solutions for next-generation manufacturing and effectively meet our members' needs."
Goldblatt, who assumes his new role as vice president of Technology Strategy and Operations on September 9, will drive strategic value creation for SEMATECH's technical programs. Goldblatt previously spent 32 years at IBM Corporation, culminating his tenure as Distinguished Engineer and senior manager of Advanced Silicon Science and Process Technology for the company's Microelectronics Division and IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, NY. His leadership was marked by successful efforts in leading the transformation of IBM's semiconductor research cleanroom, supporting early prototyping of breakthrough technologies, and developing leading-edge semiconductor technologies. Goldblatt received a doctorate in Materials Science from the University of Connecticut. He holds 13 U.S. patents and is the author of more than 30 publications.
As senior director of Business Development, Rao will be responsible for business development for SEMATECH, including strategic membership growth and integrated marketing initiatives. Prior to joining SEMATECH, Rao served as director of Manufacturing Research at Intel, where he led a strategic portfolio of advanced manufacturing projects in partnership with universities and national labs. A 24-year veteran of Intel, Rao progressed through a variety of assignments in senior engineering and management roles. He has authored two technical books, along with many other publications to his credit, and is the recipient of the Intel Achievement Award for reducing cycle times for fab qualifications and accelerating product time to market. Rao holds master's degrees in Physics and Solid State Materials from Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi.
