It’s a hat-trick: P2i recognized as the Most Innovative Company in Europe for the third year running

Abingdon, UK | Posted on August 20th, 2013

P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, was recognized by the International Business Awards (IBA) with Bronze in the Most Innovative Company in Europe category. This follows Gold awards in the same category in 2011 and 2012.

The IBA credited P2i's vision in identifying the significant market gap in the Electronics sector for a technology which can provide invisible prolonged water protection without compromising the design of devices such as smartphones through the addition of sealants or gaskets.

Commenting on the results, Dr. Stephen Coulson, CTO, P2i said: "It's not often a company can justify winning an award three times, let alone during consecutive years. This recognizes our ongoing commitment to the innovation of protective coating technologies and our ability as a business to implement these solutions as cost-effective processes for electronics manufacturing - a significant step other hydrophobic coating technologies have yet to achieve."

Over the past twelve months, P2i has worked to expand the technical product portfolio beyond the splash-proof treatment, focusing on increasing levels of water resistance whilst ensuring the process remains scalable and cost-effective for smartphone manufacturers. By controlling the nature and surface density of the nano-coating during the plasma enhanced deposition process, P2i is able to maintain exceedingly tight control of film thickness and composition.

"Our splash-proof technology has been proven on tens of millions of electronics devices worldwide - everything from hearing aids and headsets, to smartphones and tablets. For many everyday scenarios splash-proof is going to provide adequate protection to ensure an increased reliability of the device. However in some instances greater levels of protection are required, and that's where we see DunkableTM coming into play," said Dr. Coulson.

In January 2013, P2i previewed its next generation DunkableTM technology. This game-changing coating provides extra protection against full submergence in accidental conditions. As a hydrophobic barrier, the new, denser coating, allows smartphones to reach the equivalent of an IPx7 water rating, where devices must survive a call under one meter of water for half an hour.
