Abstract:
emonstrating the impact of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's innovation-driven strategy that is positioning New York as a global leader in two critical 21st century industries, SUNY's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) announced today that it will play a leading role in this year's SEMICON West 2013 and Intersolar North America 2013 conferences, spearheading a series of presentations and workshops that will highlight the ongoing progress of the Global 450mm Consortium (G450C) and U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC), both headquartered at CNSE.

SUNY's NanoCollege to Play Industry-Shaping Role at Semicon West & Intersolar North America: CNSE and its corporate partners will highlight the progress of New York’s Global 450mm Consortium and U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium

Albany, NY | Posted on July 1st, 2013

"In accordance with Governor Andrew Cuomo's visionary blueprint that has established New York as the global hub for nanotechnology-based education and innovation, CNSE is delighted to play a leading role at the important SEMICON West and Intersolar North America events," said Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros, CNSE Senior Vice President and CEO. "Driven by the Governor's strategic investments, New York is recognized internationally as a leader in next-generation computer chip innovations, through G450C, and clean energy technologies, through PVMC. Highlighting the progress of these game-changing initiatives will enhance CNSE and New York as a desired location for the world's leading companies focused on advanced research, development, and manufacturing."

CNSE faculty, researchers, and executives will share information on the latest advances in nanoelectronics and solar photovoltaics research and development during a number of prominent presentations and critical workshops. Additionally, representatives of a number of CNSE's global corporate partners will present at the conference, including Applied Materials, ASML, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, IBM, Intel, M+W Group, Samsung, SEMATECH, Tokyo Electron, and TSMC.

During SEMICON West, multiple presentations will provide industry updates on G450C, a first-of-its-kind collaboration announced by Governor Cuomo in September 2011 and headquartered at CNSE. It is comprised of five leading international companies - Intel, IBM, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Samsung and TSMC - working to lead the industry transition from 300mm wafer to 450mm wafer technology. Topics include an update and status report on the progress of G450C; G450C report on environmental, health, and safety (EHS) priorities; future standardization of silicon wafers to enable the transition; and the Facilities 450mm Consortium (F450C) EHS program objectives and status.

CNSE and its corporate partners will also lead key workshops and presentations at Intersolar North America, with the goal of enabling increased photovoltaic efficiency and marketplace viability. This includes a workshop hosted by CNSE on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy to advance cost-effective clean energy development through the Sunshot Prize competition; a PVMC CIGS roadmapping workshop to accelerate innovative development of new solar technologies; and a presentation detailing ways to grow U.S. photovoltaic manufacturing, secure market deployment, and expand into global markets.

SEMICON West is known as the world's premier event for nanoelectronics innovation; Intersolar North America is the world's leading exhibition for the solar industry and its partners. Both conferences run concurrently from July 8 through 11 in San Francisco, California.

About UAlbany NanoCollege
CNSE is the first college in the world dedicated to education, research, development, and deployment in the emerging disciplines of nanoscience, nanoengineering, nanobioscience, and nanoeconomics. With more than $14 billion in high-tech investments, CNSE represents the world's most advanced university-driven research enterprise, offering students a one-of-a-kind academic experience and providing over 300 corporate partners with access to an unmatched ecosystem for leading-edge R&D and commercialization of nanoelectronics and nanotechnology innovations. CNSE’s footprint spans upstate New York, including its Albany NanoTech Complex, an 800,000-square-foot megaplex with the only fully-integrated, 300mm wafer, computer chip pilot prototyping and demonstration line within 85,000 square feet of Class 1 capable cleanrooms. More than 3,100 scientists, researchers, engineers, students, and faculty work here, from companies including IBM, Intel, GlobalFoundries, SEMATECH, Samsung, TSMC, Toshiba, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, ASML, and Lam Research. An expansion now underway, part of which will house the world's first Global 450mm Consortium, will add nearly 500,000 square feet of next-generation infrastructure, an additional 50,000 square feet of Class 1 capable cleanrooms, and more than 1,000 scientists, researchers, and engineers from CNSE and global corporations. In addition, CNSE's Solar Energy Development Center in Halfmoon provides a prototyping and demonstration line for next-generation CIGS thin-film solar cells, supporting its leadership of the U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC). CNSE’s Smart System Technology and Commercialization Center of Excellence (STC) in Rochester offers state-of-the-art capabilities for MEMS fabrication and packaging. CNSE also co-founded and manages operations at the Computer Chip Commercialization Center at SUNYIT in Utica and is a co-founder of the Nanotechnology Innovation and Commercialization Excelerator in Syracuse.
