5th Bangalore Nano Awards Presented

The awards were presented by Prof. C.N.R. Rao, FRS, National Research Professor; Linus Pauling Research Professor; Honorary President, JNCASR; Chairman, Science Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India; Chairman, Vision Group on Science & Technology and Nanotechnology, Government of Karnataka, Dr. T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Shri I.S.N. Prasad, IAS - Principal Secretary to Government, Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka,

India Nanotech Innovation Award:

Introduced last year, The Government of Karnataka presents the India Nanotech Innovation Award in recognition of innovations in nanotechnology that would revolutionize the sector. A special committee was formed to select an organization / individual who have an orbit shifting idea / product in the nanotech sector. The committee is headed by Dr. G. Sundararajan, Director, ARCI.

India Nanotech Innovation Award was presented to Prof. T. Pradeep, Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT, Madras, Award Discovery: Discovery of noble metal, nanoparticle-based drinking water purification methods.

Malhotra Weikfield Foundation - Bangalore Nano Young Scientist Award:

Malhotra Weikfield Foundation - an Educational Trust set-up by the Weikfield Group offering scholarships to meritorious Students, especially girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. Malhotra Weikfield Foundation Scholarships are awarded for carrying out & completing under graduates & post graduate studies in any of the pure sciences.

Malhotra Weikfield Foundation Scholarships for Nanoscience and Nanobiotechnology are awarded for students of high merit wishing to pursue post graduation or doctorate studies.

The Malhotra Weikfield Foundation - Bangalore Nano Young Scientist Award have been selected by a Committee under the Chairmanship of Prof. C.N.R. Rao.

The Foundation presents 6 Awards to Young Researchers in the field of Nanotechnology selected by Prof. C.N.R. Rao and a Committee of Experts.

The award carries a cash reward of Rs. 50, 000/- per head along with a certificate.

This year's Malhotra Weikfield Foundation - Bangalore Nano Young Scientist Awardee are:

Ms. Ammu Mathew, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai

Ms. Archana P Retnakumari, Amrita Center for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Kochi

Ms. Reshmi Thomas, School of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER-Tvm), Thiruvananthapuram

The Poster - walkway of discovery, providing a unique opportunity for Scientists and Researchers to share their Innovations and Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology with Industry, Research Institutes and Venture Capitalists.

Poster Awards Winners

First Place was bagged by Kasinath Ojha for the poster - Nanostructured metal borides for applications as electron emitters and anticorrosive agent from Indian Institute Of Technology, Delhi. The award was laptop.

Second Place was bagged by Sakshath Sadashivaiah, for the poster - Patterned epitaxial Fe thin films as Magnonic materials from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The award was a netbook.

The third place, given to three posters, were R. Srinivasa, for Non target effect of Chitosan-alginate nanoparticles on the biology of aphid lion, Chrysoperla zastrowi sillemi Esben-Peterson (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) from National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Insects, K Gopalakrishnan for Urea-based nitrogenation of graphene and reduced graphene oxide from JNCASR and Sreerekha P R for the poster - Fabrication of a prevascularized multiscale electrospun PLGA-Fibrin patch for myocardial regeneration from Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine.

Special Pavilion Exhibitor Award:

The Award is in recognition of participation of prestigious Nano Mission Pavilion in the exhibition. The award was received by Dr. Praveer Asthana, Mission Director (Nano Mission), Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.
