Home > Press > Presidential visit to Innovnano Manufacturing Technology facility: Portugal's first nanoceramics factory inaugurated
Abstract:
The President of the Republic of Portugal, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, inaugurated Innovnano's new factory in Coimbra - the first industrial nanoceramics production plant in Portugal. During the ceremony, which was also accompanied by the Secretary of State for Innovation, Carlos Oliveira, a plaque was unveiled to commemorate this prestigious official visit.
Innovnano's industrial unit occupies a plot of 3.3 hectares in the new iParque in Coimbra. In addition to the production infrastructure, the new site includes a modern laboratory supporting research, development and quality control, representing a phased investment of 10 million euros, which will provide the creation of 40 new highly qualified jobs in the region. Innovnano is the result of continuous efforts of innovation developed in CUF in partnerships with national and international scientific and technological organizations.
The new factory will produce high performance nanostructured ceramic materials through a unique, globally patented (6 granted and 75 pending) process, with applications in diverse industries such as the production and storage of energy, aeronautics, electronics, and structural and biomedical ceramic industries. Innovnano has a network of technology partners involved in the development of new products and solutions, each with the goal of entering new international markets.
In addition to the portfolio of products currently available, Innovnano is also involved in various scientific projects with different national and international partners: the University of Coimbra, Aveiro University, University of Porto, IST, University of Madeira, Technological Center Ceramics and Glass, New University, CENTI, Ledap, CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), CPT (Centre de Proyecció Thermal), Loughborough University, University of Texas.
The official visit of the President of the Republic was attended by the principal shareholder in the project, CUF, represented by the Chairman of its Board of Directors, João de Mello. Also participating in this event were the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo José de Mello, Pedro de Mello, the Mayor of Coimbra, João Paulo Barbosa de Melo, the Rector of the University of Coimbra, João Gabriel Silva, and Innovnano CEO, André de Albuquerque, among other notable figures.
