Key Report Findings
Global Bionanotechnology market is projected to grow at 28%, compounded annually from 2005 through 2015. This growth would be driven especially by application of bionanotechnlogy in Diagnostics, Food, and Drug Discovery and Delivery. Bionanotechnology, a science of the future, is a major research area in recent times gaining importance in medicine and to an extent in other areas of research. It is a science which deals with operations at a scale which is billionth of a meter. These nano machines are modified biological entities which are driven by a motor (for energy). These nanomotors fetch various uses for our body like, the identification of pathogens, activating the immune system, automatic drug delivery system, fixing the host cells, destroying the infected and the injured cells etc,. Some machines are fitted with high intensity lasers to destroy the infected cells (like the RBC in case of malaria). This technology is now a major research field for medical doctors, biolo
gists, chemists, physicists, and engineers. Researchers are hopeful that Bionanotechnology will someday help in creating biological systems.
With the dawning of a new century, three powerful technologies have been brought together on a common scale which is called the nanoscale. This promises to cause a revolution in the fields of biology and electronics. This new field which is known as biomolecular nanotechnology holds a promise of many possibilities from fundamental research in molecular biology and biophysics to the innumerable applications in medicine, computing, information storage, energy conversion, biosensing, biocontrol and genomics. The ultimate example of nanotech is life itself. Considering this fact the possibilities of what lies ahead is truly exciting. Nanodevices will have tremendous market value, provided, they are compatible with the tissues where they are implanted, capable of transmitting data and amenable to remote control. Future research in Bionanotechnology should focus on engineering these devices to diagnose pathological tissues as well as remove or rectify them. Invention of such devices would make invasive surgery a practice of the past.
