Home > Press > Pixelligent Continues Steady Growth Amid Increased Demand for Its Nanocrystal Additives: Expands Baltimore Facility and More Than Doubles Its Workforce
Abstract:
Pixelligent Technologies, an innovator in manufacturing nanocrystal additives for the electronics, semiconductor and industrial markets, announced today that the company has expanded its footprint to include more than 13,000 sq. ft. and has increased its workforce by nearly 150% since moving operations to Baltimore in June 2011. This growth is attributed to the increased demand for its proprietary Zirconia and Hafnia nanocrystal additives and the progress Pixelligent has made in significantly scaling-up its manufacturing capacity. The company is now producing and shipping its nanocrystal additives to customers around the world.
The U.S. is currently the world leader in nanotechnology innovation and has invested more than $30 billion in research. The next big challenge of the 'nanotech revolution' is turning these innovative breakthroughs into commercial products that create jobs, generate profits and strengthen the American economy. Pixelligent is emerging as a technology leader in this space. During the past six months, Pixelligent has seen its customer pipeline grow by more than ten times -- including the addition of five of the largest multinational chemical/polymer manufacturing companies. Pixelligent's nanocrystal additives and nanocomposites are being evaluated for applications ranging from next generation lighting, to brighter and more efficient displays, to more powerful semiconductors, to the most advanced protective coatings and lubricants.
"Pixelligent is poised to take a leading role in this next phase of the 'nanotech revolution' as we continue to scale-up our manufacturing capacity to meet the increased demand for our high-quality nanocrystal additives," commented Craig Bandes, President & CEO of Pixelligent Technologies. "Just about every time we present our technology we receive an overwhelming response from potential customers that let us know our dispersion and capping technology is the best they have seen. Our proprietary technology platforms provide us with a significant advantage in the markets we serve and are enabling Pixelligent to deliver ground breaking products for our customers."
To support its growth, Pixelligent expanded its team and has recently filled a number of key executive management positions. The significant increases in its workforce, manufacturing capacity, and customer pipeline, since moving to Baltimore, have positioned the company to become a leading player in the rapidly emerging world of nanotechnology.
The City of Baltimore played a key role in attracting Pixelligent to the city -- the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) invested $200,000 and $100,000, respectively.
"We are thrilled to see that Pixelligent is thriving in Baltimore. The nanotechnology industry could be the next big thing for U.S. manufacturing, and we are privileged to have such an innovative company in our own backyard," commented Jay Brodie, President of the Baltimore Development Corporation.
