Calgary, Canada | Posted on December 3rd, 2011

In addition to Ponting's achievements, Science Alberta Foundation was awarded the Webby Award in the film and animation category for its animation on nanotechnology. The Webby Award is the leading international award honouring excellence on the Internet. The animation also won a Digital Alberta Award in the same category. The Digital Alberta awards recognize leaders in innovation, creativity and evolving digital media in Alberta. The organization was also selected as an honouree by the ASTech Foundation in the science and awareness category.

"This has been an amazing year for us," said Dr. Ponting. "It is the leader of a small organization competing against the best female executives in Canada, and a small non-profit organization competing against the best digital agencies and developers in the world and Alberta ….and winning!"

Science Alberta Foundation pose two questions and helps children and youth answer them: They are "What do you want to be when you grow up™?" and "How do you know that to be true™?" The organization reaches over 800,000 children and youth each year and encourages youth to pursue careers in science and technology, helping to foster informed decision making about science topics.

Top 100™ honourees were celebrated December 1st during the Awards Gala Dinner at the Allstream Centre in Toronto, Ontario. A similar gala will be hosted in Calgary on March 8, 2012.
