13 Meeting of Int'l Nanotechnology Standardization Committee Held in S. Africa

Tehran, Iran | Posted on November 27th, 2011

Among the participant countries in the meeting, mention can be made of Iran, the United States, Germany, Australia, Britain, Brazil, Belgium, China, Switzerland, Singapore, Russia, Japan, France, Finland, Canada, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Norway, India, and the Netherlands. Moreover, representatives from the organizations and committees such as ANF, CEN, REMCO, BIPM, OECD, JRC, ISO/TC24, ISO/TC201, ISO/TC202, ISO/TC206, and ISO/TC209 took part in the meeting too.

As the head of Classification of Nanomaterials Group, the Iranian representative explained the activities carried out by the group in the 13th Meeting of the International Nanotechnology Standardization Committee, and he presented the suggested methods in order to determine the general approach to the compilation of standard on the properties of nanomaterials. It was approved in the meeting that the case study carried out by Iran will be referred as a standard to the Committee.

Among Iran's activities in the meeting, mention can be made of the following:

o Presentation of the new edition of standard for "Measurement of muramic acid in order to determine the antibacterial activity of nanosilver" for the second stage of standard compilation. This standard had been suggested to the International Nanotechnology Standardization Committee by Iran Nanotechnology Standardization Committee, and the member countries voted for it.

o Presentation of a suggestion to compile a new standard entitled "Evaluation of respiratory toxicity of nanomaterials in in-vitro ambient". It was decided that the initial draft of the standard will be sent officially to the Committee by Iran before the next meeting.

o It was also decided that the standard entitled "Indices for evaluation of nanoscience and nanotechnology" will be devised by Iran. The initial proposal of this standard had been suggested by Iran in the first workgroup of the previous meeting of the International Nanotechnology Standardization Committee, and it was welcomed by OECD members.

Only the countries like the United States, Britain, Iran, the Republic of Korea, Japan, China, and France have so far devised or are currently devising standards as the executor of projects in the International Nanotechnology Standardization Committee.
