Members of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) have elected the executive board for the 2011-2012 term. Officers assumed their new positions effective July 1, 2011.

New IEST Executive Board Takes Office

Christine Peterson moves from the position of President-elect to IEST President. Peterson, a Senior Member of IEST, has served as the Chair of several working groups, as well as DTE/PR Technical Vice President, Communications Vice President, and instructor for the IEST Campus education program. She also chairs the International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee (ISO/TC) 108 Subcommittee 6, Vibration, and has previously chaired an International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) Workshop on Accelerated Stress Testing and Reliability. She has served on the editing committee of the MIL-STD-810 working group and has worked with companies implementing the test methods worldwide. Peterson is president of C. Hanse Industries, Inc., and has been actively involved with the chamber industry since 1989, including six years as a consultant with Angelantoni Industrie S.p.A., Massa Martana, Italy.

Officers joining the IEST Executive Board are: John R. Weaver II, Fiscal Vice President; Donald Bartelson, Technical Vice President (Contamination Control); and Matt Fraley, Education Vice President (Design, Test, and Evaluation/Product Reliability).

John R. Weaver II is a Fellow of IEST with an extensive record of service to the organization in positions such as a working group chair, working group member, technical editor of the Journal of the IEST, Standards and Practices Committee Deputy Director, and active planner and participant in ESTECH and the Fall Conference. As facility manager for the Birck Nanotechnology Center (BNC) at Purdue University, Weaver is responsible for the cleanroom and laboratory operations, facility infrastructure, training activities, and safety.

Don Bartelson, a Senior Member of IEST, heads a US Air Force effort to design, operate, and maintain the nation's largest aerospace cleanroom, expected to come online in mid 2012. Bartelson has experience in materials and processes as applied to cleanroom and satellite processing, ESD considerations in cleanrooms, coatings and corrosion control, garments in cleanrooms, and contamination analysis as it relates to satellite end-of-life predictions.

Matt Fraley, also a Senior Member of IEST, is a lead technician of the environmental lab at Goodrich Corporation. He has spent 26 years learning and improving the performance of the lab. Concurrently, Fraley has been a volunteer firefighter for 25 years, including service as captain and training officer, and is a chair for the Local Emergency Planning Committee for Addison County, Vermont.

Remaining on the Executive Board are Carl Moran, who moves from Education Vice President (Design, Test and Evaluation/Product Reliability) to the position of President-elect; R. Vijayakumar, as Immediate Past President; Frederick Fey, Technical Vice President (Design, Test and Evaluation/Product Reliability); Roger Diener, Education Vice President (Contamination Control); Greg Winn, Membership Vice President; Ahmad Soueid, IAC Vice President; and Roberta Burrows, Executive Director.
