Abstract:
The National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) recently entered into a strategic partnership with Thai Industrial Standards Institute to promote insight to nanotechnology and how it impact to industry standards and certifications.
With 65 million consumers Thailand is a big market. Thailand is a major exporter and importer of various consumer goods; therefore, it is becoming a magnet for nanotechnology related business. It is necessary for relevant government agencies such as TISI to strengthen its capability and incorporate necessary policies/regulations that meets both domestic and international acceptance. The partnership between NANOTEC and TISI will provide opportunity for the exchange of information and ideas between agencies. The goal of which is to produce some form of a guideline for industry standards of nanotechnology products either made or imported into the kingdom.
"It is impossible for one agency to focus on all aspects of industrial standards" said Chaiyong Krittapholchal, Secretary-General of the Thai Industrial Standards Institute, Ministry of Industry. "By forming strategic partnership with relevant agencies, TISI have successfully helped to strengthen the need of both industrial and consumers".
"Standardization is critical for Thailand because we are currently both exporter and importer of nanotechnology products" said Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Executive Director of NANOTEC. "Technology helps to strengthen the economy but at the same time there must be acceptable standard guidelines to which players must abide".
