Nanotechnologies provide unique properties that can result in environmentally safe improvements to a wide range of products in a variety of industries. Forest products, food packaging, coatings, composites, antimicrobial fibers, military applications, filters for blood and water and inactive ingredients in medicine are just a few examples of products and applications to be covered at the conference.

"The science of nanotechnology in renewable materials continues to advance rapidly and shows great promise as a key technology for improving not only cellulose based products but for other renewable materials and industries," notes Larry N. Montague, president and CEO, TAPPI. "The conference provides attendees insight into cutting edge nanotechnologies that can be used to develop a whole new generation of value added products that are environmentally sound and sustainable."

Key thematic areas to be covered include nanocellulosics and nanocomposites, applications of renewable nanomaterials, nanostructured materials by self assembly, nanotech coatings, new nano-enabled functionalities, and governmental and environmental issues. The conference will focus on nanotechnology for a sustainable future and address commercial production, toxicology, integration with biorefineries and other renewable material applications. Scientists, health and safety specialists, legal and government policy makers, leading researchers and congressional staff will find the latest developments in nanotechnology science, research, and applications of great interest.

Formerly known as TAPPI's International Conference on Nanotechnology for the Forest Products Industry, the title of this annual conference has been changed to reflect the advances in nanotechnology in renewable materials and their widespread applications in many other industries. The technical focus of the conference has been expanded to include other nanomaterials along with cellulose to fully embrace all nano-enabled biomaterials.

The International Conference on Nanotechnology for Renewable Materials will be held at the Sheraton Crystal City Hotel, Arlington VA. Registration for this event is already underway. Registration details are available online at www.tappinano.org.
