Abstract:
Iranian researchers at Shahid Beheshti University managed to synthesize new nanomaterials to be used as alternatives to Tris (8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminum which is widely used in high-tech industries.

Iran Takes Major Step towards Advancement of Organic LEDs

Tehran, Iran | Posted on May 19th, 2011

Due to the very high surface area (more than 750 square meters per gram) of these nanomaterials, they have shown a decent capability in the field of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs).

Ever increasing use of OLEDs in flat displays and corresponding military industries, owing to displaying applications of high information capacity, resulted in extensive researches in this field.

"In this project, we first prepared complexes of 8-hydroxyquinolinato, 8-hydroxy 2-methyl quinolinato, 5-chloro 8-hydroxyquinolinato, and aluminum alkoxide 2-butoxide," Dr. Seyed Yousef Fazaeli Hosseini-Nejad said.

"These complexes were detected by mass spectrography, infrared, ultraviolet, and nucleus magnetic resonance. Then, synthesized complexes were fixed on mesopore silicate beds of MCM-41, which have organized uniform nanopores, by direct reaction in toluene solvent."

The results imply that not only is the mesopore structure preserved by fixation of the aforesaid complexes on MCM-41 bed, but a high thermal stability and presence of complexes are also achieved. The color intensity of these nanomaterials is an evidence for their high potential for application in OLEDs industry.
