Iran Reveals Plans for Giant Progress in Medicine, Technology

Tehran, Iran | Posted on March 12th, 2011

According to 'Iran 20-Year Outlook Plan (2005-2025)', the country should make progress in producing new drug formulae, food safety and food security.

In technology, the country plans to make advancement in laser, photonic, biosensors, chemical sensors, semiconductors, shipbuilding, polymers, aerospace, nuclear fusion, nanotechnology, oil, gas, biotechnology, automation and robotic fields.

Other fields of progress stressed in the document included mine exploration and mining, quake and flood prediction, civil defense, optoelectronics, telecommunication networks, network security, catalysts, medical engineering, metal alloys, magnetic fields and materials, offshore structures, rail and road transportation, urbanization and trafficking.

Earlier, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in February stated that Iran has witnessed eye-catching progress in different scientific fields, and stressed that his administration is resolved to boost financial backup for scientific researches.

Ahmadinejad said that Iran has taken a wide stride in development and construction, adding that achievements have been noticeable on multiple fronts ranging from aerospace, biotechnology and nanotechnology to major improvement in housing development in rural areas as well as other parts of the country.

He also expounded on government efforts to allocate more funds for the next fiscal year of 1390 (2011) in promoting scientific and technological researches, namely in agriculture and research sectors with nearly $10 billion and $3.5 billion budgets respectively.

Iran in February unveiled two supercomputers in a special ceremony attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

President Ahmadinejad inaugurated the projects simultaneously in Amir Kabir University of Technology and Isfahan University of Technology through video-conferencing.

The supercomputer devised in Amir Kabir University has the capability of processing 32,000 billion data per second at the speed of 40 Giga bytes.

20 researchers and experts have worked on the project in 2009.

The supercomputer made by Isfahan University scientists is among the 500 best ones in the world.

Iran designed and built its first supercomputer in 2001.
