'Visionary' professor brought nanotech center to UT
Abstract:
In the 12 years that Paul F. Barbara was a chemistry professor at the University of Texas, he brought in millions of dollars in grants and pushed the university into new scientific fields.
As the founder and director of UT's Center for Nano and Molecular Science and Technology , Barbara and his work attracted the attention of the U.S. Department of Energy, which in 2009 funded a $13 million program to explore alternative energy options. At the time, it was the biggest grant given out through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Barbara died Sunday from complications following cardiac arrest. He was 57.
