The scientists will receive their awards from H.E. Dr. Virachai Virameteekul, Minister of Science and Technology at a dinner reception at Siam City Hotel in Bangkok on October 19.

The 2010 Outstanding Technologist Awards were announced on October 11 and are to be formally given on October 19, 2010, a day marked by the Government of Thailand as "Thai Technology Day" in honor of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej as "Father of Thai Technology". The recognitions, which carry cash prize of 600,000 Baht (USD 20,000) for the Group Research Award and 100,000 Baht (USD 3,500) each for the Young Technologist Award.

The Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of His Majesty the King was established in 1982 as a non-governmental organization with the aim of promoting the advancement of science and technology in Thailand. The Foundation has established the Outstanding Technologist Award to recognize Thai researchers with outstanding scientific achievements each year, who can role models for future generations of scientists. It also awards a limited number of Young Scientist Awards annually to encourage young scientists to perform research work of quality. Both awards are among the most prestigious awards of their kind within the Thai scientific community.

"The 2010 Outstanding Technologist Award gives recognition to technologist whose research projects gives importance to new and outstanding project, social impact, involves significant science & technology activities, and enhance Thailand's industrial competitiveness" said Dr. Kopr Kritayakirana, Chairman of the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of His Majesty the King.

For 2010, the Foundation will present 1 Group Research Award and 4 Young Technologists Awards to the following group and individuals:

Group Research Award:

* The Rice Gene Discovery Unit at Kasetsart University received the Group Research Award for their research work to enhance the quality of Thai Jasmine rice.

Young Technologist Awards:

* Asst. Prof. Dr. Pimthong Thongnopkun (Burapha University, Chanthaburi Campus), for her research on Using Nano Silver Clay in Thai jewelry production.
* Asst. Prof. Dr. Chotirat Ann Ratanamahatana (Chulalongkorn University) for her research on Dynamic Time Warping.
