TRI/Princeton Expands Measurement & Claims Support

Princeton, NJ | Posted on October 1st, 2010

TRI/Princeton, the internationally recognized institute for hair and fiber research, announced today that it has formed a new technical group to better serve members and clients.

The Measurement Service and Claims Support group will expand the Institute's offerings to clients with new product performance measures and claims support. With several new measurement techniques, this new group will also enhance client value through competitive analysis in relation to regulatory changes and general market trends around the globe. This expansion will not only strengthen capabilities in hair research but introduce new dermal and optical techniques which will expand the Institute's offerings to the skincare industry as well as into advanced fiber applications. Examples of such offerings include new methods for investigating hair breakage, volume, shine and color, as well as new services for non- animal in vitro dermal and ocular product mildness studies and 3-D non invasive imaging techniques.

The new group will be lead by Dr. Trefor Evans, who has been promoted to Director of Measurement Services and Claims Support at TRI. With a background in Analytical Chemistry and Measurement Science, Dr Trefor Evans has spent the last 18 years applying these disciplines to a variety of roles within the personal care industry. This includes award-winning research in the area of fundamental hair science; but also support and participation in the launching of successful hair care brands worldwide. Prior to joining TRI, Dr. Evans was associated with Helene Curtis and Unilever, where he managed a group of instrumental testing laboratories addressing diverse needs such as claim substantiation, product development and manufacturing issues. Since joining TRI in 2007, Dr. Evans has been instrumental in building a strong client base through development and promotion of new test methods which help distinguish product attributes and strengthen technical marketing claims from a sound scientific basis.

"TRI is strongly committed to expanding its scientific focus and offerings to clients and by so doing, capturing more value for its efforts," said Dr. Michael A. Drzewinski, President & CEO of TRI. "Trefor's extensive background will not only be a key asset to this expansion but will be a catalyst to similar activities in other areas of home and personal care and advanced applications such as composites, energy storage and filtration. There is no doubt that Trefor's new focus will create an immediate and valuable asset for the Institute."

"I am excited to take on this expanded role at TRI to further establish and grow TRI as a technology leader" said Dr. Evans. "Our distinguished client list has long recognized the value TRI Princeton provides and I look forward to increasing the value and services offered by the Institute."
