Abstract:
Young students from Behbahan, a city located in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province, managed to synthesize some highly used nanoparticles after passing a short educational course on the basics of nanotechnology.
Hojjatollah Moallemian designed a two-month theoretical and practical educational program in Kharazmi Research Center to get the young students of Behbahan city familiar with nanotechnology.
At the end of the course, a group of the students succeeded in preparation of zinc oxide nanoparticles via hydrothermal method, iron oxide nanoparticles by sol-gel method, titanium and copper oxide via sol-gel reflux technique, cluster nanoflowers of zinc oxide and its nano rods through electrospinning and carbon nanotubes via electric arc discharge within liquid with metal oxide catalyst.
The relevant SEM images taken at the University of Tehran, and XRD results (conducted at the Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch) ascertain the nanometric nature of the synthesized structures.
Hojjatollah Moallemian is a nanotechnology researcher who holds a Master of Science degree in Physics. He has been financially supported by the INIC for his M.Sc. thesis pertaining to synthesis of nanoparticles.
The news of this achievement, originally published in the website of NanoClub, has received wide attention and admiration of the public.
